FIREFIGHTERS were called to extinguish a blaze in an historic arson-hit building.

Three fire engines from Cleveland Fire Brigade went to Tunstall Court, in the West Park area of Hartlepool, at 7.45pm on Sunday.

Youths seen running from the area are believed to have been behind the blaze which was started on a staircase in the building.

Crews used one hose reel to put out the flames in about 20 minutes.

Police were also called to the scene.
