FIREFIGHTERS spent an-hour-and-a-half tackling a fire at a historic building which has repeatedly been targeted by arsonists.

Two crews from Stranton Fire Station and one from Billingham were sent to Tunstall Court, in the West Park area of Hartlepool, around 5.30pm on Sunday.

They did not leave the scene until 7pm and had to gain access via a 30ft ladder to a window as staircases have been destroyed in previous fires.

The source of the fire was a pile of rubbish on the first floor which spread to a doorframe.
