FIREFIGHTERS are dealing with a large blaze on a Sunderland business park.

A number of crews are battling the blaze at a derelict property on Alexandra Business Park in the city.

The brigade was called to the scene at around 5.15pm on Sunday.

There is a fear there are gas cylinders inside the building which measures approximately 330 feet by 660 feet.

A spokesman for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “A number of Tyne and Wear pumps are there and an aerial ladder platform from Durham and Darlington is helping as well.

“People will probably see a large plume of smoke from the fire.

“We are dealing with the situation and are expected to be there for some time.

“It is believed there are cylinders inside the property.”
