Firefighters wanted to man Hartlepool station

A HARTLEPOOL fire station is looking for new part time firefighters to play a vital role in the community.

Cleveland Fire Brigade is recruiting for retained firefighters to join crews at stations across the region including ah Headland Fire Station, in Durham Street.

Retained firefighters are members of the community who are paid to provide an on-call service by responding to emergency calls in the same way as full-time firefighters.

They use the same appliances and equipment, but who are on call rather than located at a fire station.

Applicants must meet a number of criteria including living within five minutes of the fire station.

You need to be at least 18 years old and have a good all round fitness levels.

Chief fire officer Ian Hayton said: “We are looking for dedicated and committed people to help us provide modern fire and rescue services within the local community.

“Retained firefighters are already an important part of our service and can come from any background – for example, they might be a parent who needs flexible working hours, someone with some spare time or who is unemployed.

“The new recruits will be given comprehensive training and they will be joining our professional team at a time of important change for the brigade.”

The recruitment lines opened at 8am today and close at 5pm on Tuesday, August 26.
