TICKETS will be available later this week for one of the main events in Hartlepool’s commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War.

‘Homecoming’ – a spectacular new outdoor theatre show – will be performed in the Headland Town Square on Tuesday, December 16, from 6pm-7pm.

Created by internationally-acclaimed theatre company Periplum, the show will use digital projection, pyrotechnics, specially commissioned music, lighting and other visual effects to tell the stories of local residents’ contributions to the war effort, both on the home front and on foreign battlefields.

The performance has been developed from research material gathered by local libraries and archivists, including interviews with Hartlepool residents, and will include a chorus made up of local people.

Entry to the show is free but is by ticket only. There is a total of 1,650 tickets and to give people the best possible chance of obtaining them, the tickets will be available from Hartlepool Art Gallery & Tourist Information Centre in Church Square in a phased release.

The first 500 tickets will be available from today, followed by similar releases on Tuesday, October 21, Tuesday, November 4, and Tuesday, November 18.

Given the outdoor location, the audience will be required to stand. However, some seating will be available for people with special requirements such as the elderly and those with disabilities – people must advise of this when getting their tickets.

The Hartlepool performance is one of several commemorative events currently being organised by Hartlepool Council for 16th December - 100 years to the day that the Imperial German Navy bombarded the Hartlepools.

The other events are still being finalised but they will include the unveiling of a new war memorial on the Headland.
