A PUB quiz team said they were delighted to finish seventh in a national competition over the weekend.

The four-person strong team from the Fishermans Arms, on the Headland, took part in The Great British Pub Quiz for the third year running.

They had finished sixth and 11th in previous years and were pleased to be close to the top again in the competition featuring 24 teams.

The masterminds making up the Fishermans Arms team this year were Mandy Jackson, Dave Bell, Alex Park and Noel Cornforth.

Steve Bell, 50, who runs the pub in Southgate with Mandy, said: “They were really pleased with where they finished because the standard was so high. One of the winning team had been on Mastermind, so that just goes to show how good it is.

“It was a great trip and we had a good time, but we were keen to get back home for a pint.”

They had travelled down to Molineux, the home of Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club, to take part in the competition yesterday.

To earn a spot in the final they had joined more than 1,120 pubs across the country in an eight-week competition, organised by Punch Taverns. Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, was the writer of the quiz and well-known from ITV show The Chase.
