Footballers make history

A SCHOOL football team made history after taking home a clean sweep of trophies.

The Year 8 team from High Tunstall College of Science, in the town’s Elwick Road, were crowned Town League Champions, Town Cup winners and six-a-side A and B League champions.

Ben Holden, a PE teacher from the school, said he was “delighted” with the players.

He told the Hartlepool Mail: “It is an enormous honour to see the lads win this many trophies.

“I am really pleased their hard work has been rewarded and we hope to see more coming our way from this very young side.

“It is good to see that they are making strides as a team and hopefully these aren’t the last of the trophies we bring back to school.

“All the lads who play in the team are very good sportsmen, but also very well behaved in school.

“Their work in the classroom is paying off on the football field.”

Not only have they won four trophies this year, but some players have been rewarded with call-ups to academy sides.

Goalkeeper Josh Noble has caught the eye of Sunderland and Ben Henderson, a central midfielder, has been scouted by Middlesbrough.
