FOOTBALL stars will swap the pitch for the green in an effort to raise money for a young team.

Hartlepool United favourites Adam Boyd, Evan Horwood and legendary striker Joe Allon are hoping to raise as much cash as possible to support Golden Flatts Football Club, which boasts more than 100 youngsters playing in teams from under-fives to under-11s.

And the trio, along with other local celebrities, are set to take part in a golf day and sportsman’s evening for the cause – which will also give funds for various other charities – at Hartlepool Golf Club, off Speeding Drive, Hart Station, on September 1.

Former Newcastle United ace John Beresford will be the principal speaker at the gala dinner in the evening, along with a comedian, after other names from the football world lent their support to the golfing event during the day.

Pools legend Joe said: “I am really looking forward to the charity day, I always receive a warm welcome from the people of Hartlepool.

“I know they will support the lads of the town with this great event, a load of well known faces will be joining us.”

Paul ‘Goffy’ Gough, of PR company Goffy Media, who has helped to arrange the attendance of the personalities, said: “We are always delighted to support the people from the town, and this is a great way to help young footballers with our various contacts.

“It promises to be a brilliant occasion, with plenty of charity cash going to help the Golden Flatts boys.”

The cost for a team of three or four with a celebrity for the full day of golf and evening gala dinner is £200, and are available from Andy Wilson on 0709451535 or email
