Four-car smash causes A19 delays near Billingham

A19 south-bound now clear of debris after a four-car smash

The crash happened at 8.55am today near to the Billingham turn-off resulting in huge tailbacks.

Police now say the road is re-open and has been cleared of debris, and traffic is moving freely.

A blue Mercedes, a black Vauxhall Corsa, a silver Vauxhall Corsa and a blue Vauxhall Vectra were all involved in the smash.

Ambulance paramedics were called to the scene, and transported a 52-year-old man, who had been driving the Vectra, and a 37-year-old woman, the driver of the silver Corsa, to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, with minor injuries.

Two women driving the other two cars are believed to have escaped uninjured.
