GARDENERS have the chance to give their gardens a boost with free compost.
The giveaway is being staged from 10am-2pm on Sunday in Jackson’s Landing car park, off Hartlepool’s Marina Way.
It is the latest in a series of similar initiatives which aim to reward people for supporting Hartlepool Borough Council’s garden waste kerbside collections scheme.
Kate Ainger, the council’s environmental projects officer, said: “The composting of garden waste contributes to our overall domestic waste recycling rate which is currently running at around 47 per cent – the highest that it has ever been.
“We want to thank people for their support by giving them back some compost that they can use to feed their gardens.”
Residents will be entitled to a maximum of three bags of compost which is produced at a local farm.
Bags will be provided.
