Fun for the family at Hartlepool Carnival as entertainment announced

Carnival time is almost here and organisers are looking forward to another fun-filled programme of events.

Hartlepool Carnival launches this week with the arrival of Murphy’s popular giant funfair on the Headland.

A variety of family-friendly events are in store again leading up to the parade day on Saturday, August 11.

It all starts on Thursday with the opening of the funfair on Thursday at 2pm by Hartlepool Mayor Councillor Allan Barclay.

And the Hartlepool Hawks Cheerleading Academy will put on a showstopping display.

A carnival spokesman said: “Carnival time has arrived and we are anticipating a brilliant fortnight.

“We have been overwhelmed with the support from local businesses and the community this year which has been great.

“Hopefully it will be another bumper success like last year and the weather will be kind to us.”

The first event is the children’s sandcastle event.

It takes place on Monday, August 6, from 10am on the Fish Sands.

There are two categories; one for children aged four to eight and another for youngsters aged between nine and 13.

On Tuesday, August 7, it is back to the Fish Sands for a Family Treasure dig Tuesday starting at 10am.

On Wednesday, August 8, local children are encouraged to show off their talent in the always popular Children’s Talent Competition.

It takes place at Headland Social Club in Throston Street, from 1pm to 5pm.

On Thursday, August 9, the roles of Carnival Prince and Princess will be decided.

Children aged between 11 and 16 are invited to take part in the event which takes place at The Victoria Arms from 1pm onwards.

Judges will be out and about on Friday, August 10, to judge the best dressed house, business and garden from 1pm.
