A FUNDRAISING event left a group of residents with smiles on their faces.
The elderly people living in Burbank Court Sheltered Housing Scheme, off Burbank Street, in Hartlepool, organised an event to raise cash for their forthcoming Christmas party this year.
The residents, along with staff and workers at the site, came up with the idea of holding a number of activities at their fundraiser.
These included a table–top sale, raffle, cake stall, tombola and stalls selling hot and cold drinks.
They also went on a mission to get some great raffle prizes to entice people into buying a ticket and getting some more money in their kitty.
Also after discussing who could be the guest of honour at the event, which was held inside Burbank Court, they decided to invite the Labour MP for Hartlepool, Iain Wright.
Mr Wright took time out of his parliamentary duties in Hartlepool and in London to go along to the event, which was held last weekend.
Before he attended the bash he took to social networking site Twitter and said: “Nice sunny day to be opening Burbank Court fun day.
“If you’re in Hartlepool today get yourself there.”
He made an appearance at the bash and enjoyed talking to the residents not only about the day and their fundraising efforts but also about concerns they have about life and Hartlepool in general.
A spokeswoman for Burbank Court Sheltered Housing Scheme said: “This was a great fundraising event organised by Burbank Court Sheltered Housing Scheme Tenant Group.
“They wanted to hold the fun event to raise money for the Christmas party for the residents this year.
“They had things like table–top sales, raffles and a tombola. A great time was had by all.”
