STAFF and users of a community venue are celebrating after being handed almost £10,000 to lay on extra play facilities.
Youngsters from Lynnfield Primary School and the surrounding area are reaping the benefits after Lynnfield Community Learning was awarded £9,989 from the Big Lottery to provide free after-school activities and school holiday activities.
So far, Lynnfield Community Learning has been able to provide a weekly street dance class and during last week’s half-term holiday, as well as a multi-sport session and two Halloween-themed arts and crafts sessions and co-hosted a Spooky Fun disco in conjunction with Lynnfield Children’s Centre.
Staff say these events were well-attended and received brilliant feedback from both parents and children.
There were more than 70 youngsters at the Spooky Fun Disco and more than 100 across the other events, which were aimed at children aged from birth to 11.
Lynnfield Community Learning is a registered charity working from the Lynnfield Centre, in Elcho Street and its chairman is Steve Watson.
Centre activities worker Joanne Hay said: “This money will mean a lot to the people of the area and we are looking forward to putting on lots of events. “If anyone wants to give us any suggestions of what kind of activities they would like to see they can get in touch.”
The organisation is also putting on street dance sessions after school, which are proving popular as they are fully-booked.
Anyone wanting to provide suggestions for events can get in touch with Joanne on (01429) 232946.
