The countdown has begun to Hartlepool’s Race for Life lap along the seafront - but there’s still time to sign up.

The 5k run will be hosted along the promenade on Coronation Drive in Seaton Carew from 10.30am on Sunday, with boys and girls invited to join women of all ages for the Cancer Research UK event.

Don’t forget to bring the family along to cheer you on.

The course will take runners on a single flat lap which offers a view across the North Sea, with the route following a series of footpaths and roads.

Those joining in are asked to arrive an hour before the launch of the run, with the good weather forecast to remain good, predicting temperatures of between 11C and 19C.

The start and finishing points will be marked out on the green along Coronation Drive and car parking is adjacent off the street, with access to be closed 15 minutes before the start of the event and reopen once all those taking part have passed the entrance and it is safe for vehicles to move again.

A spokesman for the event team with Cancer Research UK said: “Car parking is limited and we advise to car share or take public transport where possible.

“Don’t forget to bring the family along to cheer you on.

“They can also take part in our family activities and have a great day out.”

They added the course is suitable for all abilities, with people invited to walk or jog the route if they prefer, and say it will bring together women as they help raise valuable funds which will support research.

Entry is £10 for children and £14.99 for adults.

Children aged under six are free and do not need to register and those aged over six are asked to sign up and pay a £10 entry fee.

The organisers say the day is suitable for wheelchair users with assistance.
