Girl, 13, airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after collision with car on busy North East road

A 13-year-old cyclist was airlifted to hospital in a critical condition after she was involved in a collision with a car on a busy North East road.

The teenager was placed into an induced coma by Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) medics after the incident, in Yarm Road, Darlington, at about 6.45pm on Wednesday.

The girl sustained serious head injuries and the doctor-led trauma team anaesthetised the her, before flying the patient from nearby Eastbourne Park.

She arrived at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough in a critical condition, within seven minutes.
