THE girlfriend of the man who fell from an upstairs window has described her horror at watching him tumble to the ground head first.
Mark Turner, 40, was airlifted to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after the freak incident in York Road, Hartlepool on Friday night.
His girlfriend, Caroline Laybourn, 40, said Mark (below) is still in “a bad way” and is in intensive care suffering with chest injuries.
Caroline, who owns the house where the accident happened, said she feels traumatised by the image of her partner falling to the ground.
The mum-of-four, who is unemployed, said: “I was just sitting downstairs in the living room, and I saw him fall past the window head first to the ground.
“I can’t get that image out of my head, I keep getting flashbacks.”
Caroline rushed outside to find Mark conscious, but trapped in a wooden bed frame which had been left in the front yard.
“It was just a horror scene,” added Caroline, a mum of Shelby, 13, Caitlin, 12, Shauna, seven and three-year-old Shakira.
“The paramedics and firefighters were treating him and trying to pull him out, and I could just hear him shouting my name.
“I just keep replaying it all over again in my mind.
“He has broken his wrist, but he is lucky he didn’t have any serious back or head injuries.
“But the doctors are worried about his chest.”
Caroline added: “I have no idea what he was doing, I don’t know how it all came about.
“I was downstairs while he was upstairs, and I just saw him flash past the window.”
Caroline said Mark was only briefly conscious over the weekend and was told he was lucky to be alive.
She added: “I’m just glad he is still here, it could have been a lot worse.”
