'A great human soul' - tributes paid to Hartlepool musician after sudden death

Mark 'Pino' Pinchen, who was in his 40s, is understood to have been a member of Hartlepool Borough Council's refuse collection team who died at work on Friday.

He was a member of several bands in the town including Mercedes, who played many memorable shows including at the Hartlepool Tall Ships Races in 2010.

Mark was also an instrumental and tireless committee member of town music venue The Studio, in Tower Street.

The Studio paid tribute on their Facebook page to Mark. It said: "It is with great sadness that we have to announce the passing of a trustee of The Studio and a pillar of the Hartlepool music scene for over 20+ years, a talented musician, a guide to emerging talent and a great human soul - Mark ‘Pino’ Pinchen.

"RIP brother, you will always have a place in our thoughts."

Hartlepool band The White Negroes also posted a heartfelt message on their Facebook account saying: "We are all completely shocked, stunned and devastated about our old mate Pinno - a Hartlepool music legend and top, top gadgie.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark's loved ones, his family and his children x Peace n love brother x".

Ian McManus, of Kyle's Dream performing arts organisation, said on Facebook: "He did our first ever recordings for Red Dreams...an absolute gentleman. Our thoughts are with his family xxx".

Refuse collections were suspended in Hartlepool on Friday after the tragedy was witnessed by his colleagues.

Tony Hanson, the council’s Assistant Director (Environment and Neighbourhood Services), said: “Our thoughts and sympathy are with our colleague’s family and friends at this very sad time."

Collections resumed today.
