A ‘great tradition’ is set to continue later this month when an annual pantomime hits the stage.
Blackhall Community Drama Group will be performing in Dick Whittington at Blackhall Community Centre, in Hesleden Road.
It is the latest in a long line of shows from the group, and this is its 57th annual pantomime.
The first show will be on Tuesday, January 26 at 7pm, with further performances at the same time on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, before a final show on the Saturday at 2pm.
Margaret Stephenson, who is in charge of the costumes and helps to run the show, has expressed her excitement.
She said: “The show has been going for over 50 years, and is a great tradition in Blackhall.

“People enjoy coming to watch it because we try to be professional with the costumes, lighting and music, and also adapt the show with modern music.
“Tickets are selling fast, and everyone in the group is looking forward to it.
“The excitement builds when you start the dress rehearsals, as once they get the costumes on, they really come alive. We all love it.
“Some members have been in the show for over 50 years, and have come through the ranks from being small children right through to having lead roles.”
Tickets for the show cost £4 across the board, with the panto to be produced by Carole Scott and choreographed by Catherine Hall.
The age range of the group is seven to 75, while all of the profits will go towards the running of Blackhall Community Centre.
Mrs Stephenson added: “Dick Whittington has a lovely story, and this is a great show.
“People are coming from all over to see it.
“All of the profits are going to help the running of the community centre.
“We hope to make a minimum of £3,000 profit this year.”
