Guilt-free tuck shop helps firm raise £7,500 for hospice

Flannagans Accountants in Hartlepool has been raising money for Alice House Hospice for 12 years.

In that time, staff have raised more than £7,500 in a variety of ways including cake sales, raffles and numerous sponsored activities.

And the business hopes to raise even more money for the charity after moving to new premises on Hartlepool’s Queen’s Meadow business park.

Julie Dunn from Flannagans said: “We have recently moved premises to Hub One in The Innovation Centre which has broadened our customer base as now other businesses within the centre also use our Guilt-free tuck shop, they also supported us and purchased raffle tickets for our annual Christmas raffle allowing us to raise in total £1,000 in 2016, and with all this support we hope to exceed that target this year.”

In 2012 a Flannagans team won the Specsavers Multiplier Challenge by turning just £50 they were given into over £2,000.

The most popular way of generating donations for the hospice to date has been through the firm’s Tuck Shop which is stocked with crisps, sweets and chocolate snacks.

When they are bought by staff and clients they can enjoy the sweet and savoury treats guilt free by knowing the money they paid for them is going to a good cause.

Hospice fundraiser Greg Hildreth said: “The support we receive from Flannagans is fantastic and we are really grateful to the team for their long term dedication which helps us sustain patient care in Hartlepool and East Durham; this kind of business support enables us to continue to deliver these services to those who need them, when they need them.”

Flannagans paid tribute to their staff, clients and business neighbours for their continued support of Alice House Hospice.

Alice House Hospice helps people living with a variety of illnesses including cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disorder, Motor Neurone Disease, end stage heart disease and Parkinson’s.

Its services costs £2.34 million a year to provide of which £1.78m comes from the community.
