BEAUTIFUL Alexandra Devine is only weeks away from representing her country in one of the biggest beauty competitions in the world.

The 24-year-old from Hartlepool has been chosen to compete in the Miss Multiverse competition in the Dominican Republic in November.

And as well as battling it out for the crown, Alexandra will also be part of a television show as the whole experience is televised. She and the other contestants will be filmed in a TV reality show-style setting, and the programme will be screened across the Caribbean, United States and South America.

The competition will also attract an online audience of millions as Alexandra said it is being shown on the Internet.

Alexandra, from the Bishop Cuthbert area, has already enjoyed top wins at beauty competitions. She was crowned Miss Intercontinental England last year and represented England in the Miss Intercontinental finals where she placed in the top 15 out of 70 competitors.

“I was quite pleased with that”, said the former Egglescliffe School pupil and student at Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, in Darlington.

Her impressive placing led to her being asked to compete in Miss Multiverse. Alexandra is looking forward to the contest which will be seen by some of the most enthusiastic followers of beauty competitions in the world.

She said: “Pageants are quite big in America and it has a huge following. I think this is a great opportunity”.

Her time in the Dominican Republic will include a visit to an orphanage and Alexandra plans to take gifts for the children living there. She also hopes to raise money to make a donation to the orphanage.

Before she goes, Alexandra – who runs her own events company, Envied Events – has another competition finals to look forward to. She will compete in the Miami Pro UK Championships at St Albans in Hertfordshire on October 12.

“This one is more about being really toned, and fit and healthy,” said Alexandra.

As well as international appearances, Alexandra also likes to back charities closer to home.

She raised cash and made donations in support of the Butterwick Hospice and Age UK and visited Hartlepool & District Hospice.
