Anti-austerity campaigners from Hartlepool will add their voice to calls on the Government to stop the cuts at a mass rally in London this month.
Local Green Party members are among those due to travel to the capital to take part in The People’s Assembly’s End Austerity Now demo on June 20.
The Teesside branch of The People’s Assembly is also laying on a coach which will pick up demonstrators in Hartlepool on the day.
Tens of thousands of people are expected to converge in the centre of London.
Town Green Party member Tom Casey is planning to join the Hartlepool demonstrators.
Mr Casey said: “There are a number of us going from the Green Party. It will be the first time I have been to a march in London.
“I have been to one or two before but I feel we need to start to demonstrate about austerity.
“This town has been sorely neglected and I can’t see the Conservatives having any interest in the town with it being a Labour town.
“I understand there is going to be tens of thousands of people on this march and I hope we are not ignored.”
Steve Cooke, secretary of the Teesside People’s Assembly, said: “The Tories are back in, this time with a majority. They plan many more savage cuts, causing misery for millions. We are organising and demonstrating to stop them. We demand an alternative to austerity and to policies that only benefit those at the top.
“We’ll be assembling the demonstration in the heart of the City of London right on the doorstep of the people who created the crisis, to demand that they should pay for the crisis and not the majority who had nothing to do with it.”
Tickets for the Hartlepool coach are £30 for those in work or £20 if not. To book your seat email firstname.lastname@example.org
