Hartlepool cheerleaders chosen to represent UK

The stunned boss of a Hartlepool cheerleading academy has praised her fantastic students after they were chosen to represent the UK at a European championships.

Rebecca Taylor only set up the Hartlepool Hawks nine years ago, but the academy is flourishing and boasts a huge number of successes at major competitions.

The latest saw the Hawks become national champions, and Rebecca said: “We have just been asked to represent the UK at the European Cheerleading Championships.”

Two teams of Hawks will travel to the event which will be held at Kopar in Slovenia on July 9 and July 10. The Hartlepool Hawks Fierce and Hartlepool Hawks Movement squads will compete and Rebecca said: “One is a level 5 stunt group and the other is a dance team.

“I am very excited about this, as you might imagine. It is the first time that we, as a club, have been asked to go and represent the UK.

“It is a big thing for the town to have some teams going to the European Championships.”

Rebecca added: “These two teams will be representing Hartlepool and the United Kingdom.

“This is an amazing achievement for the Hawks and I am completely overwhelmed with emotion and extremely proud of all my athletes.”

Hartlepool Hawks Fierce is a junior level 5 stunt group and its members are: Ellie Lewis, 14, Jessica Dodd, 11, Kadie Bradly, 11, Lauren May, 15, and Meghan Simpson, 14.

Hartlepool Hawks Movement is a youth level 2 cheer dance team are: Ellie Mae Rennie, 12, Daisy Moran, 12, Faith Green, 10, Leah Wintersgill, 12, Jessica Dodd, 11, and Kadie Bradly, 11.
