Hartlepool cheerleaders jump for joy after competition win
A Hartlepool cheerleading squad took home an impressive 15 trophies after wowing the judges at a national competition.
Hartlepool Hawks scooped the trophies at the British Cheerleading Association’s Super Classic 2017 competition in Newcastle on May 27 and 28.
The teams, which train at the Old Durham Paper Mills, travelled to the Metro Radio Arena where they performed in front of thousands of spectators and some of the world’s top cheerleading judges.
In addition to taking the top honours in four divisions – Stunt Group All-Girl Level 4, Open Stunt Group Co-Ed Level 3, Junior Cheer Level 4 and Mini Dance Hip Hop – Hartlepool Hawks also left with seven second place trophies and four third place trophies, making them one of the most successful teams of the competition.
Coach Rebecca Taylor was delighted with the result.
She said: “The competition was one of our last official ones of the season.
“In it, we had 80 girls and boys.
“It is a hard competition and everyone taking part did really well and placed well.”
The annual event attracted more than 2,500 athletes from around the UK and Europe and is one of the most prestigious cheerleading competitions in the country.
British Cheerleading Director, Travis Prior, said: “The standard of cheerleading in the UK is improving year upon year and I am continually impressed with the standard of the routines we see.
“For Hartlepool Hawks to walk away with four titles to their name in such a tough competition is testament to how hard they have been training this season.”
