COUNCIL workers are staging an online protest against Government cuts to local authorities.

Staff from Hartlepool Borough Council have joined forces with other local authority workers nationally – as part of a UNISON and JMB campaign – to tweet Chancellor George Osborne.

The tweets have been sent over the past three days to try and get the message across to Mr Osborne that workers are disgruntled and opposed to council pay, conditions and cuts.

Edwin Jeffries, Hartlepool’s joint branch secretary for UNISON, said: “Members have been tweeting over to George Osborne about pay, conditions and the local government cuts.

“It’s part of a campaign to get the message across.”
