A COUNCIL has extended a period of leave for a much-respected councillor who has been unable to attend meetings due to ill-health.

Councillor Cath Hill, independent representative for Seaton on Hartlepool Borough Council, has missed a number of council meetings in recent months due to poor health.

Section 85 of the Local Government Act 1972 says a councillor who fails to attend a meeting for six consecutive months, unless for a reason approved by the council, ceases to be a member of the authority.

But at a meeting of the full council, councillors unanimously agreed to extend the time period for six more months and passed on their thoughts and best wishes.
