A dance school is putting on its latest pantomime as it continues a tradition which started almost 70 years ago.
The Elwick Academy of Dance has been staging annual shows for 67 years, and its latest production, Maleficent and the Sleeping Beauty, is on the Town Hall Theatre in Hartlepool.
It will run until Saturday, with performances at 6.45pm each evening and a 2pm matinee on Saturday.
It’s a must-see show with song, dance and comedy as well as a few twists to the plot which will keep the audience entertained, said dance school owner Geoff Lucas who has kept up a tradition of annual shows first started by his mother Freda Compton.
Maleficent and the Sleeping Beauty is based on the themes of the more recent Disney films rather than the old fairytale, trying to bring both to life in the story, said Geoff.
The cast will feature children aged as young as two through to the oldest performer, who is in their 60s.
Freda was the original owner of the dance school. She founded the Elwick Academy of Dance in 1949 and staged 61 annual pantomimes.
Since her passing, the trend has been continued by Geoff who has starred in shows himself.
Tickets are £10 (£9 concessions). They are available from the Town Hall Theatre box office on (01429) 890000.
