Hartlepool fans are game for new season

Hundreds of Hartlepool United supporters turned out to meet the squad and see the new strips.

More than 300 fans headed to Victoria Park today to see team in their new colours.

The home shirt sees a return to the more traditional royal blue and white stripes, complemented with a classy gold trim on the sleeves, the collar and along the shoulder.

While away from home, Pools will look striking in an eye-catching red kit, complete with a thin gold checkerboard pattern throughout.

Spectators took to the stands to watch the lads have official club photos snapped.

Colin Hogg, 59, from King Osswy, was left feeling nonplussed by the new colours but had high hopes for his beloved team.

He said: “It’s nice enough, but I don’t know, I don’t think the home one is that much different really.

“I’m feeling confident for this season though, the manager is alright, he seems like he knows what he’s doing, you have yo put your faith in him, it’s all you can do.”

David Scott, 58, from near Ward Jackson, went along to see the unveiling and his son Josh, 16, who plays for the youth team.

He said: “I think this kit is so much better, it appears to be a better fit.

“We’re really looking forward to the season, there’s been some great new signings.”

Jim Murray, 74, from King Ozzy has been supporting the his team since 1949.

He’s feeling so confident they will win their league he’s put a bet on.

He said: “I put a pet on at 16-to-one, if it comes off then I’ll be about £560 richer!

“It would be amazing if we made it to the play-offs and had a trip to Wembley.”

Bernadette Malcolmson, 33, from the Headland, is chuffed the new tops have the club’s motto ‘ never say die’.

She said: “There’s such a great spirit around the club at the moment and we need to keep this going.

“I love the fact that the shirts have the club motto on.”
