FOUR Hartlepool lads are revving up for a 1,500 mile charity banger car rally.
The team hope to raise thousands of pounds for two great causes when they join a convoy of 200 clapped out cars from Blackpool to Benidorm in Spain.
Taking turns behind the wheel of the 1996 N-reg Mercedes C280 will be mates Alan Hay, Darren Everitt, Neil Hancock and David Sowerby.
Benidorm or Bust takes place between May 6 and 9.
They have painted the car in the colours of Hartlepool-based cancer charity Miles for men and The Huntington’s Disease Association.
Alan, 31, a rigger, from Rift House, Hartlepool, said: “Darren spotted it on Facebook and said ‘do you fancy doing it?’ and I said let’s go for it.
“We got our car given to us. It is just an old rust bucket but we have brought it back to life.
“You can take whatever tools you think you may need but hopefully we won’t need them.
“We are really excited and are looking forward to raising a few more quid before we go.
“Miles for men is close to a lot of people’s hearts in town.”
And the team chose to support the Huntington’s Disease Association after former town student 16-year-old Ellie-Mae Morgan died from the condition last year.
“We are also looking forward to chilling out at the end for a couple of days in Benidorm.”
The team are selling space on the car to local businesses at £100 a time and have already raised £2,700.
To support the lads contact Darren at Martin Smith’s garage in Dalton Street.
