Hartlepool gets behind boxer Savannah Marshall as she readies herself for Olympic quarter-final

Hartlepool boxer Savannah Marshall is just one win away from guaranteeing an Olympic medal – and her town is behind her all the way.

Messages of support for the 25-year-old have flooded in since her first round win over Anna Laurell on Sunday.

The Headland ABC star is in quarter-final action on Wednesday when she takes on Nouchka Fontijn.

All four semi-finalists in Rio are guaranteed a medal, so Savannah is set for one of the biggest nights of her life.

Ahead of that, she has been given huge support from people in the town.

On Facebook, dozens of messages were left on the Mail’s page.

Michael Anthony Ingledew posted: “Well done Savannah, make our town proud, it’s our job, fight until you can’t take any more, nothing or nobody hits harder than life.”

Lynn Hardy added: “Well done looking forward to the next round.”

Tracey Hughes said: “Well done Savannah xx”

Savannah competed in the London Olympics of 2012, but missed out on a medal after being beaten in the quarter-final.

Other posters on Facebook insisted that, whatever happens, she has already done her town proud.
