Hartlepool golfer Graeme Storm '˜absolutely gutted' his season is over due to surgery for wrist injury

But the Tour pro has vowed to come back better and stronger.

Storm is set to have an operation on his troublesome right wrist on Monday after becoming increasingly frustrated with the long term problem.

The 40-year-old has suffered from the injury since the end of last year but put off surgery in the hope things would improve.

But, having had to withdraw from the Trophee Hassan II last week, Storm has made the decision, along with his medical team, to undergo surgery in the hope of finding a solution.

Storm commented on his Twitter page - ‘Absolutely gutted to announce that unfortunately my 2018 season looks to be over. I’ll be having wrist surgery on Monday which will put me out of action for up to 6 months. I’ll be doing all I can to come back better and stronger. #nevergivein.’

Storm added: “I will need the recovery time, with the specialist telling me it should be four to six months before I can play again. It’s deeply frustrating.

“But it is a recurring injury and I have to get it right. That’s sport. You can get niggles that don’t go away and that develops into inflammation within joints, that’s what has happened and I need to get it sorted.

“I have put it off with Cortisone injections. I have had a choice of more injections or surgery this time. Fingers crossed the surgery will help. I don’t want to rush back.”
