A Hartlepool stylist vying for a top award for her work says it would be the “icing on the cake” to take home the honour.
Hair extensions specialist and mum-of-two Joanne Fox is in the running for a Great Lengths award and is relying on votes so that she can claim the gong.
Joanne, 34, is in competition with three other finalists and will find out in a few months’ time if she is victorious.
“Great Lengths is one of the biggest hair extension brands in the world and I’ve been using them since 2004,” said Joanne, of Bishop Cuthbert.
“Every other year they have an awards event which is to recognise and single out the cream of the crop for use of extensions.
“You can submit before and after images and the judges choose 12 nominees and put them in a gallery.
“I won March and now I’m in the final so I need as many people to vote for me as possible through July.”
Joanne, mum to Lillie, 10, and Jacob, three, has been in the industry for two decades and admits she would be over the moon to win the award.
She trained with the Saks franchise in Hartlepool before deciding to specialise in hair extensions in 2004, operating on a mobile basis which she says is something she and her many clients in the town prefer.
“I love having the freedom of being mobile and my clients seem to like that too,” said Joanne, who is married to Mark, 39.
“They like having the work done in their own environment and also a lot of people don’t like others to see that they have hair extensions in, which of course they would know if I ran a salon.”
She added: “It’s hard to say how much it would mean to me to win.
“I was a finalist in another Great Lengths contest in 2012 and I got to the final three but didn’t win, which left me devastated.
“It would be the icing on the cake for all of the years of hard work that I feel I’ve put in.”
Joanne will find out if she has won the award at the Great Lengths final in Leeds on September 16.
