A charity walk with a groovy theme is coming to Hartlepool this weekend - and people still have time to get involved.
This year’s Hartlepool & District Hospice Moonlight Walk will see people “dancing through the decades” this Saturday.
We are looking forward to it and it promises to have a great party atmosphere. It is an important part of the hospice events calendarJanice Forbes
Each year, hundreds of people take part, many walking in memory of loved ones. Last year’s event had a film theme and saw people turning up for the 5.5-mile, movie-themed walk in Hollywood-style fancy dress.
Now comes the ninth annual walk and hospice officials are once again hopeful it will be a winner.
Hospice community fundraiser Janice Forbes said: “We are looking forward to it and it promises to have a great party atmosphere.”
The event is sponsored by Bristol Street Motors. Registration is open from 8pm with entertainment from veteran DJ Walter Barton of Deck One.
People can dress in the style of their favourite decade. The walk starts from Hartlepool College of Further Education at 10pm and follows a circular route along the sea front to Seaton Carew Golf Club and back
Registration is £10 per person and includes a sash, refreshments on return from the walk and a medal.
To sign up, contact the hospice fundraising team on (01429) 855536 or visit www.hartlepoolhospice.co.uk
The hospice, based in Wells Avenue, offers specialist palliative care to hundreds of adults from Hartlepool and East Durham each year.
Individuals who access hospice services can be living with illnesses including cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, Motor Neurone Disease, end stage heart disease and Parkinson’s.
Each patient and their family or carers receive a tailor-made package of services to meet their needs.
It costs £2.3m to provide the current range of services. The hospice receives 24 per cent NHS funding so the outstanding £1.7m must be raised through the community and other fundraising initiatives.
