Pools produced another attacking display in last night’s 0-0 draw at Newport County.

Perhaps the finishing was not as polished as in the 3-1 wins over Barnet and Dagenham, but the ambition was certainly there.

In mitigation, the difficult surface at Rodney Parade was not conducive to good finishing but the point was a good, and worthy one.

And Carson believes Pools are in great form - and confidence - under new boss Craig Hignett.

“We’re an exciting team and it’s exciting to be a part of it,” said the keeper.

“But I think the key thing about us now is that we are a team, you can see that.

“We defend as a team and we attack as a team. Look at the last minute when Batesy went storming forward!

“I was screaming at him to get back but it shows the intent we have in this group and the freedom the gaffer gives us.

“Nicky Featherstone straight away saw Batesy had gone and he filled in. We have the mentallity, fluidity and solidity.”

Pools have taken seven points from a possible nine over the last 11 days.

“I think we’ve been immense ever since the new gaffer came in,” said the 28-year-old.

“But we’ve maybe made silly individual errors, myself included. There is a solid base there now.”

Carson was excellent for Pools as the last line of defence and was pleased with his contribution.

“When the pitch is like that it actually helps, you concentrate that little bit harder,” he said.

“Sometimes it can get a bobble, but luckily I seemed to connect with everything.”
