The town's Inshore Lifeboat was alerted at 8.25am this morning to assist a 23ft yacht that had run aground on Middleton Beach, Hartlepool, with two persons on board.

The rapidly falling tide meant that the boat could not be towed from the beach despite the best efforts of the volunteer Inshore Lifeboat crew and other RNLI volunteers who had assisted with the attempt to re-float the boat.

The boat will remain on the beach until the next high tide when it will be re-floated and make its own way back to sea.
