HARTLEPOOL’S lifeboat crews were called out to help two stricken vessels within the space of two hours.

The town’s all-weather lifeboat was sent out to tow a private angling vessel back to shore after it ran into difficulty when a piece of rope became tangled around its propellor eight miles east of the Hartlepool coast.

While the crew dealt with that boat, which had four people on board, during an operation that lasted from 11am until 1pm yesterday, the crew’s counterparts on the inshore lifeboat sprang into action to help a small yacht which had ran aground in the channel not far from the lifeboat station, at 12.20pm.

Crew members spent 15 minutes helping it into Hartlepool dock.
