A Hartlepool store is gearing up to support a fundraising coffee morning.
M&S Hartlepool plans to raise a cup of coffee and a slice of cake in aid of the 25th anniversary of Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, and is calling on its customers to join in too.
Ten per cent of each sale from M&S food halls is going to Macmillan and all M&S Cafés will also be donating 5p from every cup of coffee and slice of cake sold during September to Macmillan.
This is the sixth year that M&S has supported the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning and during this time the retailer has raised more than £4m.
This year’s event comes as it is revealed that there are 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK today, a number that is set to double by 2030.
The money raised by M&S will help to support people affected by cancer by funding vital posts in local communities, across the UK.
Chloe Gallagher, senior partnership manager at Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “It is a sad fact that one in three of us will get cancer in our lifetime, and it is the toughest fight most of us will ever face. The support Macmillan receives from M&S is vital in enabling us to continue to support people affected by cancer, so that no one has to face cancer alone.
“Celebrating the 25th birthday of coffee morning makes this year extra special for all involved and we hope that lots of people across the nation will join us to help make this year’s event the biggest and best ever.”
