A MAN from Hartlepool has been airlifted to hospital with serious leg injuries after a two-car crash.

The 30-year-old town man is being cared for at Newcastle’s RVI hospital following a collision on the A68 road near Catcleugh Reservoir, in Northumberland.

The casualty had to be cut free from the car he was travelling in by firefighters at around 4.30pm on Thursday.

He was transported to hospital by the Great North Air Ambulance and was said to be stable on arrival.

An air ambulance spokesman said: “Fire and rescue and police also attended. The helicopter crew were able to give advanced pain relief to allow the patient to be extricated from the car, as he had sustained serious leg injuries.

“Once stabilised the patient was flown to the Major Trauma Centre at the RVI hospital for further treatment.”
