Members of a Hartlepool musical theatre group dazzled an audience in the heart of London’s West End as they showcased their performing skills.

Casting Call Academy of Musical Theatre, which has just celebrated its first anniversary, took part in a showcase performance called Bobby Dazzler’s Live at Her Majesty’s Theatre.

They blew the audience away and we’ve had nothing but amazing feedback

Around 20 academy youngsters performed a variety of numbers from hit musicals, including Matilda and We Will Rock You, alongside nine other performance schools from around the UK.

Kaine Ward, 17, star of Sky 1’s Got to Dance series, was the special guest act in the theatre, which is home to long-running musical Phantom of the Opera.

Kate Williams, founder and head coach of Casting Call, said: “The support from local businesses and people while fundraising for this trip has been overwhelming.

“It was a tiring process, the performers rehearsed every Sunday leading up to the performance but every second was more than worth it.

“They blew the audience away and we’ve had nothing but amazing feedback. It was a great experience for the members, for some of whom it was their first time in London and it is definitely something we will be looking forward to in the future.”

Casting Call, based in Walmsley Hall, Osborne Road, celebrated its first anniversary last month. In their first year they staged two variety shows, performed in Middleton Grange shopping centre and at Hartlepool Maritime Experience’s Spoo-quay Halloween event.

Earlier this month they supported member Ethan Lang who was part of a production of Sweeney Todd at Newcastle’s Tyne Theatre & Opera House.

From Monday, March 28, to Friday, April 1, Casting Call is hosting an Easter Workshop week focussing on singing, audition technique, choreography, stage make up and costumes.

The week will end with an Easter fundraising concert featuring a Disney numbers and smash hits.

Tickets are £2.50 available now from members and staff.
