PERFORMING arts students at a Hartlepool college are looking forward to taking part in a national maritime project later this summer.

Teenagers at Hartlepool Sixth Form College, in Blakelock Road, will be taking part in Follow the Herring - a project focused on a shared maritime heritage.

The national tour combines performance, song and visual arts and offers opportunities for communities to get involved and “share the journey”.

The college students will be performing in June 2014 and Vicky Jackson, head of performing arts at the college, said: “This is an amazing opportunity for our students to work on an award winning professional production and will give them an invaluable insight into the industry.

“They are the only young choir taking part in the project this is something that will look really good when they are applying to drama schools and university.”

As part of their involvement in the project it has attracted attention from the ‘Young Performers Magazine’ who contacted Vicky to interview her and some of the cast that will be performing.

Vicky added: “The students are really excited about working with an original score and it is something really different to anything they have done before.”

Hartlepool Sixth Form College students taking part include Abby Brazell, Rebecca Ord, Shannon Hogg, Anna Amerigo and Nicola Brown.
