The first official event for Hartlepool Carnival takes place tomorrow night when Miss Carnival will be crowned.
The fun competition, which is open to girls aged 16 and over, takes place at Headland Social Club, in Throston Street, on Saturday and gets underway at 7.30pm.
A singer will also entertain and organisers are hoping for a good turnout to kick carnival fortnight off with a bang.
The role of Miss Carnival was held last year by Jenna Evans.
The title holder, to be picked by a panel of judges, will become one of the faces of the carnival and will support events including taking part in the carnival day parade on Saturday, August 8.
The fairground comes to town next week and opens to the public on Thursday afternoon.
Hartlepool’s Hawks cheerleaders will help get the games and rides, run by J Murphy’s fairground, off to an energetic start.
