The Fisherman’s Arms on the Headland is inviting drinkers to join them for the four-day event which begins tomorrow and will see several live musicians playing.

Landlords Paul and Lana Williams have scoured the country for the best real ales to tempt punters, but with a strong focus on supporting North East breweries.

Paul said: “It has been a bleak winter so we are trying to kick the spring off.

“This will be our third beer festival since we took over, just over a year ago and they are always busy. We will have about 20 beers on over the weekend.

“Some are tried and tested, but most of the beers we have never had here, so we are trying to add something different.”

As well as locally-produced ales, drinkers will be able to try beers from Yorkshire and as far away as Dartmouth.

A number of music acts are due to play on Saturday night from 8pm.

On Sunday “The Fish” will welcome acoustic duo Pekham Wanley, who play well-known hits in their own unique style.

“They are a massive draw,” added Paul.

“They have played the beer festival a couple of times and are starting to get a bit of a name in Hartlepool and Newcastle.”

The pub on Southgate opens at 12pm on Good Friday and the beer festival continues on Saturday, Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

Customers will also be raising money during the weekend to support an appeal to buy a defibrillator for the Headland.

Entry is free.
