A Hartlepool restaurant is hoping to curry favour with the judges of a prestigious national award.

The Golden Gate restaurant and takeaway in Church Street has been nominated as the North East’s best place to grab food on the move in the national British Takeaway Awards.

It is always nice to know that the people coming through the door appreciate your efforts. I’m pleased to say we have a large number of regular customers who return time and again.

The shortlist of five North East outlets will be announced on October 23.

The family-run Golden Gate was established in 1995 and has been providing customers with authentic Indian food, as well as a range of traditional English dishes, for the last 22 years.

Imran Abul and his brothers have been running the business for more than 10 years, during which time it has gone from strength to strength.

The Golden Gate is no stranger to awards already.

The restaurant is the only Indian eaterie in Hartlepool to have won the prestigious ‘tried and tested’ award from the world’s leading online takeaway ordering service JUST EAT, which operates in 13 countries around the world.

And it was recently voted the town’s best sit-down Indian restaurant in the Hartlepool Mail’s Curry House of the Year 2017 awards.

“Being nominated in the Hartlepool Mail’s awards was a real thrill, because the awards are voted for by our customers,” said Imran.

“It is always nice to know that the people coming through the door appreciate your efforts. I’m pleased to say we have a large number of regular customers who return time and again.

“And we are very excited to be nominated in the British Takeway of the Year awards. The awards recognise the huge importance of the takeaway industry in Britain today, from fish and chips to Chinese, pizza to curry.

“We are pleased just to have been nominated and we can’t wait to find out how we’ve done.”

The Golden Gate is open from 5pm until midnight every day, with a happy hour until 7pm Monday to Friday, with a five-course meal for only £8.95. Delivery service is also available.
