Hartlepool roofer hopes to lift UK's top tradesman title
Roofer Matthew Wilson from Hartlepool has seen off more than three thousand competitors to make the national final of Britain's Top Tradesperson 2018.
Screwfix launched national search for the country’s top tradesperson and the outright winner will win a new Mitsubishi L200 Warrior pick-up truck worth £33,000.
Matthew, who is a third generation roofer with 16 years’ experience, will now attend the final at Twickenham Stadium in July 27.
His business recently secured a contract in the Caribbean to complete the largest Sika roof pro-job in history, as part of a hotel build.
Matthew, who trades under the name Wilson Roofing Contractor, said: “To be recognised for the hard work that I put in means so much and I’m looking forward to meeting the judges and the other finalists too.
“I’m extremely enthusiastic about my work and always give 100% - I can’t wait to show the judges what I’m made of, and to make my family and customers proud.”
Wilson Roofing Contractors have already completed three hotels in the Caribbean as well as undertaking charitable work repairing schools damaged by Hurricane Urma.
He takes immense pride from helping to get the island back on its feet with his team of 15 English contractors and more than 40 local labourers.
Caroline Welsh, director of brand and marketing at Screwfix says: “I’m looking forward to seeing Matthew at the final.”
