A rugby club in Hartlepool is set to mark its 125th anniversary with a celebratory event.
The 2018/19 season will be a historic milestone for Hartlepool Rugby Club, also known as Hartlepool Old Boys RFC, as it prepares to turn 125 years old.
Formed in 1893 as Hartlepool Old Boys RFC, the club has been officially recognised as Hartlepool Rugby Club since 1978.
To commemorate their milestone year, bosses at the club, base at Mayfield Park in Hartlepool’s Easington Road, are organising a season-long celebration featuring a series of events.
And club bosses are calling on players and supporters past and present to help celebrate the milestone.
Steve Johnson, club president said: “We are incredibly proud of our rich heritage and are looking forward to recognising that throughout the coming season.
“We are excited to bring our past, present and future together as we continue to develop, grow and celebrate this fantastic club of ours.”
A new gold crest that acknowledges the occasion has already been launched alongside a range of merchandise and a commemorative 1st XV playing shirt that incorporates a return to the traditional black and white hoops.
Meanwhile the club have also announced a very special 125th Anniversary Celebration Dinner to be held at Hartlepool Borough Hall on Saturday, September 15.
The evening will feature a three-course dinner, guest speakers, disco and live music from local band The Flying Oysters.
Organisers say the event will be ‘memorable occasion’ in th club’s history.
Event organiser Andy Bell said: “The 125th Anniversary Celebration Dinner will be a very special and truly memorable occasion.
“We have made every effort to ensure that it is going to be a fantastic evening for everyone in attendance.
“In addition to that we would like to invite all players, officials, members, supporters and friends of the club, past and present, to join us.”
Tickets are priced at £25 per person and tables of ten are available.
