ONE of Hartlepool’s biggest fundraising events is back and organisers are confident it will be another outstanding success.

Miles for Men will return in the summer when hundreds of men and boys of all ages are set to pound the Hartlepool coast in aid of cancer research.

The 5km run will be held on Sunday, July 19, and registration is open now.

Nine hundred courageous runners, many of whom had been personally affected by cancer, took part last year and raised £30,000 for cancer charities.

The route is unchanged from last year and will start and finish from the Sports Domes at Seaton Carew.

Miles for men founder Michael Day said: “We are posting registration and sponsor forms to everyone who took part last year and people can also register through our website.

“We hope it will be another successful event. Many people in the country are struggling financially but the people of Hartlepool always come out in force for Miles for Men.”

The race gets underway at 1pm on the day and entrants will be issued with Miles for Men t-shirts from 10.30am.

It costs just £5 for under fives to join in, £10 for youngsters aged six to 17, and £15 for adults. Over 65s run for free.

There will be the usual mix of music, children’s rides and various attractions at the start and finish.

Of last year’s sponsorship £20,000 went to cancer research UK and £10,000 to Hartlepool and District Hospice.

Since launching in 2012, the annual run has expanded to other cities including Liverpool and Sunderland.

Through a series of other events, including many run by supporters, the charity last year celebrated raising more than £125,000.
