A football coach is hoping to score in a national holiday heroes contest
Peter McKinney, a tutor and football coach at Gateshead College, from Hartlepool, has made the final 10 in a holiday price comparison website’s inaugural competition, which aims to celebrate individuals who have made a difference in their community.
The shortlist for icelolly.com’s Holiday Heroes 2015 was announced following public nominations and a vote by a panel of judges.
Peter, 38, was nominated by parent Lyn East after the hard work he has put into coaching the Under11 football team that her son plays in.
If crowned the ultimate holiday hero, Peter will win a holiday to Majorca for himself and his family courtesy of icelolly.com.
Peter said: “I feel very humbled to have been shortlisted. I’m just doing something that I love and very much enjoy. I am very lucky that I have the support from the parents of the boys, and for the boys to come back week after week giving 110% each time.”
Ms East said, “I voted for Peter as I think he really deserves to be recognised for the time and energy he has invested into the U11 football team. He spends a lot of his free time coaching and developing the boys which takes him away from his own family time.”
Voting closes on Friday, December 11 with the winner set to be revealed on Wednesday.
