The 32-year-old from the Oxford Road area of town was seriously ill after a severe asthma attack - but quick-thinking daughter Faye Moran-Hutchinson, who was just 10 at the time, sprang into action.

She ran to the One Life Centre and alerted medical staff to her mum’s life-threatening condition.

Thanks to her intervention, her mum lived.

Last night, Faye won the title of the Hartlepool Mail Carer of the Year and Sarah said: “It is very well deserved because she is my guardian angel.”

Poorly Sarah suffers from life-threatening asthma, sciatica and has battled pneumonia in a string of health issues which have plagued her life in recent years. She needs her inhaler and a nebuliser by her side all the time.

The once-healthy mum could walk five miles easily. Now, she struggles to get from one room in her home to the next without having to stop for breath.

And even then, she still relies on the amazing support of her daughter to get through the day.

Faye’s incredible daily support includes;

* Helping her mum to get dressed and have breakfast, before she goes to school at English Martyrs.

* She helps her little brother Ritchie, who is four, to get ready.

* She does the same for her six-year-old sister Ava.

* Then she goes to school herself and when her schoolday is over, she comes home and does it all again.

That’s remarkable enough - but what she did for her mum in 2015 was astonishing. Her mum was having a severe asthma attack and Faye took over.

She ran to the One Life Centre and told the nurses exactly what had happened. She described every symptom and every piece of medication her mum was taking.

It saved her mum’s life.

Sarah said: “She is my guardian angel. I would not be here without her.”

And the praise also came from Steve Hope, of English Martyrs School, who said: “She never complains and takes it all in her stride. I take my hat off to her to be doing this at such a young age.

“She is a very caring 12 year old and has had to grow up quicker than usual.”

Faye’s remarkable story came to light at last night’s amazing Best of Hartlepool Awards but hers was only one of a string of tales of amazing selflessness from the people of Hartlepool.
