Hartlepool set for £64,000 to help fix potholes

The Department for Transport has announced how much money councils will be allocated as part of the Pothole Action Fund Fund.

The Government say the cash will allow Hartlepool Borough Council to fix around 1,208 of the town’s potholes.

The £250m Pothole Action Fund was included in the 2016 Budget with the aim of improving local roads and delivering better journeys to benefit motorists and cyclists.

The government believes the funding will repair nearly one million potholes across the country over the next 12 months.

In the North East 12 councils will receive a share of over £3m, helping remove around 58,000 potholes from roads this year.

Over the next five years the Fund will give authorities £50m a year help them tackle more than four million potholes.

Hartlepool Borough Council welcomed the funding.

A council spokesman said: “Maintaining and improving roads around the town is a high priority for the council. Given the scale of Government budget cuts in recent years, any additional funding is to be welcomed.”

Transport Secretary Patrick McLoughlin said:“We are giving a record £267m to local authorities in North East that will support the Northern Powerhouse and improve journeys for all.”
