The local Armed Forces will be moving into the centre from 11am to 4.30pm tomorrow to drum up support for Hartlepool’s Armed Forces Day – a national event held in celebration of all the men and women who make up this tremendous community.

Tomorrow will also mark the town’s Headland Heritage Day in honour of the peninsula, which is steeped in history.

Organised by the local Armed Forces Liaison Group and Hartlepool Headland Local History Group, members of these two organisations will be at the shopping centre.

Local war veterans are encouraged to attend on the day to share their own personal experiences of their service in the army.

Mark Rycraft, Middleton Grange Shopping Centre manager, said: “We’re delighted to be able to assist in the promotion of this special event. Hartlepool Armed Forces Day and Headland Heritage Day is a wonderful opportunity for the local community to come together and support the amazing people who choose to serve this country.

“There will be the chance to see up close numerous regiments on parade, live demonstrations and re-enactments as well as various pieces of army equipment.

“To also commemorate Hartlepool’s Headland Heritage Day seems only fitting, as this spectacular bit of coastline not only demonstrates this town’s military defences, but it was also the first place on mainland Britain the Germans bombed at the start of the First World War.”
