Hartlepool site set to commemorate Battle of Jutland

A historic Hartlepool site is playing its own part in the commemoration of a famous battle.

The 100th anniversary of the Battle of Jutland will be marked on Tuesday, May 31, and the Heugh Battery, now a popular musuem, will have a model of the battleship HMS Warspite on display.

It was one of the ships in the battle was the battleship and it inflicted damage on the German vessels Seydlitz and the Moltke - two of the three battle cruisers which had been involved in the Bombardment of Hartlepool.

The model of Warspite is 12 feet long and has been restored by museum volunteers including Glenn Baume, Bruce Brennan, Ken Laking and the late Alan West.

Also on the way is The Victory of the Daleks event on Saturday, May 14, from 11am to 3pm, when daleks from Dr Who will ‘invade’ the site.

The museum is open between 10am and 4pm from Thursday to Sunday, each week.
